Spikeball, a relatively new addition to the sport and recreational games community, is an exciting, fast-paced game admired by many. Whether on the beach or in a park, Spikeball can be played in almost any place with four people. The idea of the game is similar to volleyball; a team of two people attempts to hit a small inflated ball against a net on the ground in three hits or less, with the other team of two trying to do the same once the ball is hit to them. The new activity was exhibited on an episode of the entrepreneurial TV show, Shark Tank, in 2015, and since then has been popping up in stores and seen played nearly everywhere, including our school.
Junior Gabe Sullivan founded the Holy Angels Spikeball club in early December of 2021 and says his position of being the original founder feels “pretty cool honestly, pretty important.” Although only starting the club this past year, Sullivan began playing the game in the summer of 2019 after picking it up as “something cool” for him and his friends. Today, many students have joined the club and show up to play in the Star Dome every Wednesday at 3:15. When asked to give advice to anyone considering joining, Sullivan says, “Come join! It’s open for everyone and we’re happy to have anyone join, don’t be afraid to try it.” Juniors Christian Carter and Drake Hoefer agree and say, “It’s a very skilled club with people that play at all kinds of levels. It’s a very competitive and fun environment to play in.” For more updates and information on the Spikeball club, follow @aha.spikeball on Instagram!
