
Girls Hockey will continue their season at the Xcel Center on Wednesday night at 8pm.
This past Thursday night, the 14-6-3 AHA girls hockey team played the 14-6 South St. Paul Packers for the chance to secure a spot in the Minnesota State High School League State Tournament. In the first period, the Stars got on the scoreboard first, with senior Marissa Jung scoring on a power play. However, with 16.5 seconds remaining in the first period, St. Paul scored, tying the game 1-1. At the end of the first period, the Stars led St. Paul 11-6 in shots. AHA opened the second period hot, with senior Taylor Lesnar scoring quickly to reclaim the lead. That was the only goal of the second period. At the end of the period, the Stars led St. Paul 2-1 in goals and 19-15 in shots. In the third period St. Paul scored, evening the score once again, and sending the game into overtime. AHA dominated in overtime with shots at 36-26, but could not find the back of the net. Finally, in the second overtime, AHA scored with a shot from the point by junior Riley Iverson, winning the game 3-2, securing their spot in the State Tournament.
