The Hub is a mine of hidden gems of restaurants and stores. A team of Blue & Gold writers including myself, sophomore Lucy Chamberlain, and sophomore Aubrey Panhoff made the journey to try a new restaurant in the hub: Michoacana Tasty Ice Cream & Burgers. Michoacana is a combination between American and modern Latin American foods. We entered the restaurant with no expectations and no preconceptions about what was on the menu. When we entered, we were surprised to see many tables full at the odd time of 4PM. The menu was vast: from ice cream to chamoy pickles to hot dogs to shaved ice to yoghurt bowls to elote to burgers and fries to tacos. A particularly interesting item that we saw was the diablito: a tajin and chamoy flavored shaved ice with lime, tamarind, and chili powder. The team tried a variety of menu items: strawberry sorbet, ice cream sundae, French fries, and a Nutella crepe. All three of us enjoyed our meals: the strawberry sorbet was our favorite, and the fries were our least favorite; not because they were bad, but because they were basic. We returned a few times after for a simple ice cream/sorbet treat, all of which were satisfactory. We look forward to trying more adventurous dishes, and more dishes with Latin American influence.
