Seniors keep the energy levels high at their last Hoco game!
While there are many fun parts of Homecoming week, such as the dance and football game, everyone looks forward to the themed days.
Monday, September 22, kicked off the first day of Homecoming week. Students were asked to dress in the theme of country or country club. The halls were a plethora of jeans, tees, cowboy hats, and western boots contrasted by skirts, polos, and golf and tennis attire. This leaves the question of the superiority of wild, boot-stomping rodeos, or classy, elegant organizations.
For Tuesday’s theme, each grade was assigned an age to dress as. Freshmen were spotted in the halls sporting tutus, pacifiers, and onesies as toddlers. Sophomores were given the theme of middle school, which they showed with oversized hoodies and Ugg boots. Juniors, however, turned to their parents’ closets in search of their outfits as middle aged adults, bringing in large Yeti cups and jeans. Seniors went all out as actual senior citizens, dressing in robes, grandfather sweaters, and carrying canes and walkers.
On Wednesday, students showed off their favorite holidays. Lots of students dressed up as Christmas, wearing fuzzy sweaters and flannel pajama pants. Others opted for the patriotic Fourth of July, donning red white and blue USA attire.
Thursday was a double theme of “jersey day” and “anything but a backpack.” Lots of Minnesota teams were broadcast through the students’ attire, including the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Vikings. Additionally, many creative and unique non-backpack items were brought, including a mini shopping cart, fishing net, and even a vacuum.
Finally, Friday was the classic “spirit day,” where every class wore their own color coinciding with the AHA school colors: blue, gold, black, and white. Students and staff ended the day with a lively and entertaining pep fest, which included a football toss contest. Shortly after the school day ended, everyone was back on campus for the Stars Are Out Tonight event and Homecoming football game.
During an interview regarding Homecoming week, freshman Grace Braun said her favorite theme was “jersey day,” where she wore a Minnesota Lynx jersey and brought a donut box instead of a backpack. Braun also attended the “Stars are Out Tonight” event, and her favorite things about the event were seeing her friends and decorating her gray sweatpants, as per AHA tradition for freshmen girls.
