November 9th was a great day for student-athletes across the country. This was the day that student-athletes could officially sign their letters of intent to play college sports at the Division I or II level. Will Briggs is one of the few student-athletes who got the chance to play a college sport at the Division I level. Briggs committed to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where he plans to study kinesiology and play baseball.
Briggs signed his letter of intent in the parlor in front of family, friends, teammates, coaches, and teachers. This event was quite emotional for many, but it showed Briggs’ character both on and off the baseball field. One of the highlights of Briggs’ signing was when he was able to speak about this moment. He emphasized the fact that sacrifices needed to be made to get him to where he is today. Briggs also said something that really stood out in his speech. He said that “all the bumps and bruises make you who you are, even with your God-given talent.” This is a testament to all the work he puts in behind the scenes when no one’s watching.
In the long term future, Briggs hopes to play professional baseball, but if that doesn’t occur, he wants to coach younger generations of players.
