At the start of the season, the Stars baseball team geared up for what promised to be an exciting and competitive year. The team’s captain, senior Mason Garcia, was optimistic about the season ahead. “We’ve been working hard in the off-season to improve our skills and chemistry as a team,” said Garcia. “I have full confidence in my teammates’ abilities and determination to succeed.”
Key players who made an impact were sophomore pitcher Joe Ackerman, who continued to show his dominance as in past years, senior Maison Roudabush who was a great leader and still plans to deliver his team to the elusive state tournament, and speedy sophomore Cole Cheeseman who made a statement on the basepaths.
These three players and the addition of some other key players have driven the Stars to an 14-4 record so far this season. Junior Finn Sheeley leads the team in hits and RBIs while Cheeseman trails close behind. Power-hitting junior Justin Gabrik also continues to make a large impact on the team’s success via his homerun, which propelled the Stars to an 8-6 victory against Cooper. Freshman Evan Johnson has also received the call to play varsity and his performance is nothing short of dominant. The Johnson has had two phenomenal starts against Cooper and Hill Murray recording double-digit strikeouts in both.
After two swift wins against Cooper and Fridley, the team is well-positioned to continue their winning streak and make a strong push in the section playoffs. Fans can expect an action-packed end to the season filled with thrilling games and exciting moments as the team presses on through the upcoming postseason.
