For several seniors, this year was their first time voting and participating in the election process. No matter the political party the individuals associated with, November 5th was both exciting and nerve-racking for students at AHA.
In some senior classes, there were conversations regarding the presidential election. Discussions included preparation methods and resources for gathering information regarding the candidates. Some teachers even paused classes to discuss what voter registration looks like. Reese Skelton, senior, said, “I just went there and all they did was stare at me, I was waiting for them to ask me a question or something.” Senior Callie Holmes said, “It was an exciting experience to exercise a new right as an American.”
When asked about the directions and how clear it was to vote, Shailin Patel, senior, said, “It was slightly confusing and they should have had bigger directions, but it went by quickly.” Some people decided only to do the front side, not the backside. As first-time voters, the process was unfamiliar and it was difficult to complete. Sam Goedde, senior, said, “I didn’t know I had to register before I went in to vote, but luckily they helped me go through the steps.”
All of the seniors who voted were most excited about participating in the election, especially because they got the “I voted” sticker.
