This year, the AHA English department hosted a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to England and Ireland. On a trip supervised by Ms. Ahlm, Ms. Ginder, Ms. Miles, and Mr. U., students had the exciting opportunity to engage in local traditions and immerse themselves in a new culture with their peers. Their trip started as they arrived in London Heathrow Airport, where they were transported to their nearby hotel. As students were then taken on bus tours throughout the city, they were able to discover the many beautiful aspects of London. One student’s favorite part of the trip was the gorgeous architecture on display around the city, particularly the awe-inspiring Tower Bridge, located in the center of the capital. One day, the group was given a choice between going on a British Museum tour, or a Harry Potter movie tour. Students who chose to tour the British Museum were able to explore a world-renowned museum that contains history from cultures throughout the world. Meanwhile, those who chose the Harry Potter movie tour were able to walk in the footsteps of their favorite characters and explore breathtaking sets from the award-winning movies.
After the students’ stay in London, they then traveled to Ireland for more fun times. Staying in a hotel outside of a large city, the group was able to get the authentic Irish experience. They enjoyed local cuisine and music, even getting the opportunity to sing along to Irish songs during an Irish folklore night hosted at a local pub. When asked if they preferred the English or Irish accents, students Landon Rudolph-Sieling 25’, Quetzalli Garza Silva 25’, and Jason Urgiles 24’ all agreed that the Irish accent was far more entertaining. When asked if he would like to return to England and Ireland, Urgiles said, “I would love to go by myself someday soon to explore the city and surrounding areas more.” Overall, the trip was a fun and enlightening experience in which AHA students were given the opportunity to take advantage of a new culture and country.
