As editors of The Blue & Gold for the 2022-2023 school year, we knew we had some big shoes to fill. Last year, Claire Krieger ‘22 and Grace Clements ‘22 decided to resurrect the school newspaper after several years of inactivity. They worked extremely hard to get the paper up and running. We reached out to Claire and Grace for an update on their college experiences.

Claire is attending Fordham University in the Bronx, studying journalism. She says that her college environment is “definitely an adjustment compared to high school…especially since I came out to New York and didn’t know anyone!” Grace goes to Creighton University in Omaha and “absolutely loves it!” She is majoring in Business Management on the Pre-Law track.

Both former editors have kept up their journalistic passions in college. Claire joined The Ram, Fordham’s school paper, as a writer in the culture section. She continues to enjoy writing, stating, “I thrive in culture, and I like doing fun pieces.” Grace writes for The Creightonian, the Creighton paper. She works on opinion pieces, creating “silly opinion pieces each week!”

The duo had some words of advice and encouragement for the current staff members of the Blue & Gold; Claire believes the staff should “just have fun!… I’m so proud of you guys. Just keep up the good work – and don’t be afraid to rake the muck.” Grace concluded by saying, “My advice to the staff is to write, have fun with your articles, and try to show some personality in each piece! The best articles are ones where I can see some insight on the writer’s personality.”

We’re excited to continue Claire and Grace’s work this year and hope to encourage all students to get involved with The Blue & Gold. Whether as dedicated readers or new staff members, we love to see the student body engaged in our work with the paper.
