The phrase goes that there are two types of people in this world: the Irish, and the ones who wish they were Irish. Saint Patrick’s Day is a very important religious holiday for the Irish, full of partying and drinking. But why do they celebrate it? Saint Patrick’s Day is to honor Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. At age 16 he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland, bringing his faith with him. Saint Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland; however, he is most famously known for comparing the Trinity to the three leaves on a clover in an effort to teach the Irish about Christianity. Ever since, the Irish have been honoring him, as Saint Patrick’s day has been celebrated for over 1,000 years. All over the world, people celebrate it and the same happens at Holy Angels. A number of teachers have shamrocks and leprechauns in their classroom, and on the 17th we all dressed in green showing that you don’t have to be Irish to celebrate this holiday. You just need some green and to have some fun.
