With a new trimester beginning, you might be wondering “How can I have a more sustainable school year?” There are tons of different ways to adapt your daily school schedule to be more sustainable.
Many school lunches are wrapped in plastic packaging, which results in waste that builds up over time. Reduce waste by packing a lunch. Even if it’s only once or twice a week, it can help to save plastic waste and money, too. Compostable and reusable bags can be found at many grocery stores, which are great alternatives to Ziplocs and one-use packaging.
Most students drive themselves to school, which contributes to carbon emissions. A great way to help cut back on these emissions is carpooling. Driving a neighbor to and from school is a super helpful way to reduce your carbon footprint. Additionally, if you live close to school, maybe try biking or walking to school once or twice a week, especially as the weather warms up.
Lastly, join the Holy Angels Sustainability Club. Educating fellow students on the importance of sustainability can help create a community of people who are earth-conscious. The Sustainability Club is involved in things such as the clothing drive and is aiming toward composting food items in the lunchroom. Remember, small changes make a big difference.
