For the first time in a long time, the AHA Spanish department is hosting a school trip in conjunction with the science department! Students will embark on a nine day adventure to the tropical paradise of Costa Rica. Over these days, students will experience the culture of Costa Rica, have opportunities to pitch in with conservation activities, and explore the Arenal Region in all its glory. Mrs. Eiden, Ms. Lahr, and Ms. Moravec will be accompanying students on this trip along with a full time tour guide, who is provided by EF Tours, the program which the trip is run through. The teachers believe this will be an amazing experience, with Ms. Lahr saying, “It is really important for students to get out of their comfort zones and experience new places and cultures. This makes a person more accepting and learned about the world. High school is a great place to start!”
On the trip, every day is planned out with an itinerary. Additionally, all meals, flights, hotels, excursions, and more are included in the price of the trip. Students will experience many activities throughout their time in Costa Rica. Just a few examples include a crocodile safari boat cruise, kayaking trips below the beautiful Arenal Volcano, visiting thermal hot springs, and seeing the breathtaking La Fortuna waterfall. This trip will be something to remember, with Ms. Moravec saying, “Going on a trip in high school is a completely different experience than outside or after high school because the friendships developed on the trip and the memories you will make will stick with you for a long time. I will always remember the school trips I went on as a highlight of my high school experience.”
Students in Spanish 3, 4, and 5 are welcomed to sign up for the trip. Mrs. Eiden believes that this will be an important experience for students, saying, “Costa Rica is a great opportunity to use Spanish in real life situations to meet people and experience the culture. Plus, it’s super fun!” There are only 30 spots available and they are already filling up. This will be a trip of a lifetime!
