Football season is in full motion at AHA and a big event has just passed – the Homecoming Game. On September 30th, the AHA Stars hosted the BSM Red Knights at the StarDome. The AHA varsity football team so far this season has a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. During this game, the Stars were pumped to get another win under their belts, especially against the Red Knights. Last year, AHA played BSM in their Homecoming game and took home the win with a score of 35-3. With the atmosphere in the StarDome on Friday, it became clear the crowd wanted to see another decisive win.
The players came out waving the AHA flag, and the crowd erupted with support for the home team. Following the procession, the National Anthem was sung by AHA’s Academy Singers, and the crowd was adamant with applause for the group. The game then began, and the first touchdown was run fifty-three yards by wide receiver, Chuck Gilbert ’23. After that, quarterback AJ Boarman ‘23 scored a touchdown by running from the twenty yard line into the end zone, scoring the Stars another touchdown. AHA then kicked the football in between the goal posts for another extra point, making the score 14-0 as we neared the end of the first quarter; an impressive lead for AHA in just the first quarter. Going into halftime AHA was up 34-7.
A shoutout was then given to the AHA Drumline, who had performed at the AHA pepfest prior in the day led by Mr. Dysart. At halftime, the AHA Starliners performed for their second time that day, as they had performed at the AHA pepfest earlier. The dance team performed a dance to a mashup of the popular song “Reverse, Reverse, Reverse,” originally written by DJ Casper. The AHA Hall of Fame inductees were then brought out and officially welcomed to the AHA Hall of Fame. The inductees this year included Jay Barribal ‘06, Kerry Graczyk Marshall ‘93, Randy Nelson, Kelly Graczyk Newlin ‘97, and Fred Wroge. For more information on these individuals, the AHA website has them currently featured under “2022 Activities Hall of Fame.”
The Stars got back out on the field for the third quarter, and Gilbert caught another touchdown, making the score 41-7. The game then lasted with no change in the score until the game ended. The final score was 41-7; another AHA victory over the Red Knights. There was an abundance of fans in the crowd that night, and everyone was pleased to go home with another decisive victory. The next game for the AHA varsity football team is away on October 7th at St. Louis Park – mark your calendar and bring your coats, because it’s predicted to be cold. We hope for another victory for our AHA football team. Go Stars!
