On Sunday, February 13th, the Girls Table Tennis team competed at the AHA-held State Tournament, and earned third place in the Championship. This triumph stirred excitement and brought joy to the team, having been two years since they last participated in the competition. This highly anticipated tournament at the end of the season is always a highlight for the team. Senior Maria Zeien says, “At the tournament, everyone else is really skilled, and it kind of takes you by surprise the first time.”
From her four years on the table tennis team, senior Lauren McCoy has made many fond memories. From state tournament championships to accidentally hitting Mr. Roche on the nose, McCoy recounts her favorite ping pong moments. She enjoys practices, especially when they have round-robin matches. This is when each player rotates and plays everyone on the team. “It’s a great practice to play different opponents and you get to know your team,” she says.
Zeien encourages future students to join table tennis, saying “it is a great way to meet new people and a great activity. It is super flexible to your schedule, so you don’t have to make a major commitment. It is a unique opportunity to develop a skill and experience some competition.”
Thinking of playing a winter sport? Table tennis will provide you with valuable skills and techniques, help you become a better teammate, and allow you to meet a diverse range of students of all ages. Sign up next season to join the fun!
