Football

After a fantastic outing against Hill-Murray last Thursday, the football team was back on the field Friday night where they played Orono. With many seniors graduating from last year’s team, this year was seen as uncertain by many, but, like we saw on Friday, this football team is still very much focused on making it back to State. Highlights from the last game include a 75-yard passing touchdown to Will Snyder, a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Joe Miller, and a 15-yard passing touchdown to Chuck Gilbert. Let’s hope our Stars can keep this up when they play South St. Paul next Saturday at 1:00pm in the Stardome.

Boys Soccer

Our 3rd ranked boys soccer team was back in action this week playing Southwest Christian on Tuesday, crosstown rival Richfield on Thursday, and Holy Family on Saturday. The boys soccer program also graduated many seniors, many of which were a part of multiple deep postseason runs. But even though the team has lost some postseason experience, they are still plenty talented and hope to reach the state tournament. The boys lost to Southwest Christian 1-2, beat Richfield 2-1, and lost to Holy Family 0-3. They play St. Anthony Village Thursday night in the Stardome at 7:30pm and Minneapolis Washburn on Saturday night at 8pm at Washburn.

Girls Soccer

Our girls soccer team, ranked #1 in class 2A, has been on a tear as of late. With many players from last year’s team returning and some newcomers on varsity as well, the cohesion between the old and new seems to be working quite well. And who knows, maybe there’ll be another state tournament appearance in our future (knock on wood). Anyway, the girls played South St. Paul on Tuesday, Richfield on Thursday, and Holy Family on Saturday, and beat them 6-0, 5-1, and 1-0 respectively. Girls soccer will be playing Tuesday at Highland Park at 7pm, St. Anthony Village in the Stardome at 5:30pm, and Minneapolis Washburn at Washburn at 6pm.

Volleyball

Volleyball didn’t have a crazy game schedule last week which allowed for the team to put in more hours on the court to work on their craft. They played Robbinsdale Armstrong last Wednesday night and beat them in 3 sets. They also played in a tournament over at Visitation in which they beat three different teams in 2 sets. This squad is looking dangerous right now, so make sure you come out to Monday’s game against Brooklyn Center at AHA at 7pm. They also have two other home games against Richfield on Tuesday and St. Anthony on Thursday both at 7pm.

Girls Tennis

Girls Tennis had a somewhat slow week only having one match, but it was a big one. They played Richfield for the Battle of the Tracks trophy last Thursday and brought the trophy home with some solid all-around matches. They’ll be quite busy this week, playing four matches in five days. First on the schedule will be at Bloomington Jefferson on Monday at 3:30pm. Then, Tuesday against Minneapolis Southwest at Valley View Park at 4pm. After this they play Robbinsdale Cooper on Thursday at 4pm at Valley View Park. And finally, they face St. Louis Park on Friday at 4pm at Valley View Park once again.

Cross Country

Cross Country hasn’t had any meets as of late, but they have been putting in extra work this week to prepare for their big meet, the Lakeville Applejack Invitational, at Steve Michaud Park. Both boys and girls will be competing this Friday with varsity boys beginning at 4:35pm and girls starting at 5:05pm. Make sure to wish them luck in the hallways!

Girls Swim & Dive

Girls Swim & Dive has had a very active week. Though they didn’t end up winning their meet this past week, putting them at 1-2 on the season, they had their annual car wash fundraiser over at Penn Auto Shop. They were able to raise $1900 for their co-op program! Their next meet will be Thursday against Minnehaha Academy at 5:30pm over at the Richfield Middle School pool.
